Newsletter - 8th March 2018

 Dear Parents

After the snow last week, it is nice to get back to normality this week with the sun shining.

I am sure you have all received the email informing you that parent consultations have been changed to Wednesday 14th March. If you have any questions about your appointment time, then please do not hesitate to phone or email Mrs Taylor.

Sports Relief 2018

Sport Relief wristbands will be on sale in the school office throughout the week beginning Monday 19th March. All proceeds from the sale of these wristbands will go to Sport Relief. On Friday the 23rd March, we will be fundraising for Mrs Hewett who I am sure many of you know is running the London Marathon this year. As a school, we would like to support her charity the Evelina London Children’s hospital and on that day, the children can come dressed in sports clothes for a donation of £1. In addition to this, there will be a bake sale and a variety of fun sporting events the children can pay to take part in during the afternoon. The ideas for these have come from school council and include a penalty shot out against the teachers and assault course around the school. A flyer will be sent home detailing exactly what is happening nearer the time. If you are able to donate cakes for the bake sale that would be much appreciated. All the money raised during the day will go to Mrs Hewett’s charity.

I am also aware that another parent is running the marathon too and would like to wish Mr Huttley lots of luck on the day.

I am sure you have noticed or heard that the children have lanyards in school now. The initial idea was to keep the children’s reading badges on it due to many getting lost on jumpers. I put the suggestion to the children at school council and they really liked the idea. They then also asked if they could have badges for other things in school. The badges will be for things we already give stickers or certificates for but they would have a badge as well. The children came up with ideas for the badges and that is what we have gone for. I have spoken to the children about health and safety. The children in Classes 3 and 4 keep their lanyards at school, the other children can choose to wear them or not. Thank you to FOPS who have funded the cost of the badges and lanyards.

Harry Potter Day

The children looked wonderful last week it was such a shame that the day was cut short by the bad weather, however, we did manage the book quiz and some of the activities. Thank you for your support as always.

Sponsored Walk

On Sunday 29th April one of our parents, Mrs Lukehurst, has organised a sponsored 5K walk around Betteshanger Park. It is family event aimed at raising money for coaches for school trips. The walk will begin at 10am and the sponsorship forms will be available from the office from Monday 19th March. The event was discussed at last night’s FOPS meeting.
