Newsletter 11th May 2018

As usual, time has gone so very quickly and we are nearly at the end of Term 5. The school year has gone so quickly and Term 6 will be no exception due to the many exciting events planned for the children.

Absence

Just a reminder to parents if your child is absent from school you must phone the school office to let us know. If your child has an urgent medical appointment then please let Mrs Taylor know in the school office and she will pass this onto the class teacher. Routine check-ups should ideally be made outside of school hours as not to interfere with learning time.

General Data Protection Regulation

I am sure you will be aware that the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will determine how people’s personal data is processed and kept safe, will apply from 25 May 2018. The Preston & Wingham Primary Schools Federation has taken this opportunity to review the data it holds and how it is processed to ensure that our systems meet the new requirements. You can find the federation’s revised Privacy Notice on the school website.

In order to make sure that we have the necessary consent from you regarding the use of images of your child I would be grateful if you could complete and return the attached forms to the school by Monday 11 June.

Pupil Premium Funding

The School is entitled to receive additional Pupil Premium Funding to support those children whose parents are in receipt of the following:

  •       Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • During the initial roll out of the benefit, Universal Credit

However, the school will only receive the funding to support those children who are eligible if the child’s parents/carers apply for the child to receive Free School Meals. If you think your child is eligible to receive this funding please visit the website below to complete an application.

https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

Please note that this application still has to be made for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 even though these children do not have to pay for their school meals.

If you are unsure about making an application please contact the school office for further advice and assistance.

Sponsored Walk

I’m sure you would like to join me in expressing our thanks to Mrs Lukehurst for organising the sponsored walk at Bettshanger Park. So far an amazing £612 has been raised so far with more sponsorship money due in. The money will go towards the cost of coach travel for school trips so every child will benefit from this. Thank you so much to all the children and parents who took part, we are truly grateful for your efforts.

School Fete 17th June 2018

Our annual school fete is fast approaching and we need your help. We will be holding two non-uniform days in order to collect items for the fete. Friday 18th May for a donation of toiletries and Wednesday 13th for a donation of alcohol. If you could offer some support on the day there is a list by the school office. It is always a very successful event and my thanks go out to all the people who are busy behind the scenes making sure it is a great day. We are very lucky at Preston to have such a supportive group of parents. FOPS money has helped the school environment and provision grow. The staff and children at Preston would also like to express their thanks to Dave Brazier and Sarah Smith who both have stepped down from their roles as chairman and secretary. In my time here at Preston I have very much enjoyed working with them and thanks don’t seem enough for the dedication over the years.

Fun Day 23rd July 2018

The children in Classes 1,2 and TOP have decided that this year’s school trip will not be to travel anywhere but to have the fun come to them. After a vote and the majority choosing the fun day, we have elected to hold the day at school. The children will be further consulted on the types of activities for the day. Classes 3 and 4 will be on their trip to the Rare Breeds Centre in Ashford on this day.
