Newsletter 11th October 2018

The weeks are just flying by and we are almost at the end of Term 1.

Harvest Festival:

Harvest Festival is being held on the afternoon of Tuesday 16th October in the village hall. The children will be sharing a variety of songs and messages about Harvest and we would like to invite you to share in this celebration. So that we can prepare the village hall for the seating could I ask you to return the slip below if you are coming to harvest festival. Our newly appointed Head Boy and Girl have chosen to support the Salvation Army and Red Cross food banks this year. All food donations can be bought in on the morning of 16th October. The food banks are unable to take fresh produce but would be very grateful for any non-perishable items.

Pumpkin Competition

If your child took home seeds last year for our pumpkin growing competition entries need to be brought into school on the morning of Tuesday 16th October for the judging. Pumpkins must be taken home at the end of the day.

Phonics Workshop:

Thank you to the class 4 parents who attended the phonics workshop on the 10th October. I am sure you have been inspired to go and practise your sounds! The information pack given out during the session can be obtained from the school office if you were unable to attend.

Head Boy and Head Girl

After a very close campaign I can announce that Oscar Hewett and Darcey Glassbrook-Jones are our new Head Boy and Girl. I am very proud of all the candidates who worked extremely hard. Florence Kazi and Alex Margeson were elected Deputy Head Girl and Boy whilst Harry Padfield, Charlie Hunter, James Murdoch, Georgia Binskin, Immy Drew, Emily Badland, Zoe McCorry and Emma Huttley become prefects. I am sure they will do a fabulous job and will be a credit to our school community.

School Council

Our local democracy week also saw our school council members elected. These children, along with Head Boy and Girl, will meet regularly with myself to discuss how they feel the school could be improved. We will work on an action plan and once the first meeting has happened I will share what they have decided.

Quex Cross Country

On Saturday 6th October the first of the annual cross country events happened at Quex Park. This year was no different to others in the fact that all our runners tried their best, ran their own race and showed real determination to complete the run. We are all extremely proud of you.

Home Learning Tasks

A reminder to you all that the home learning tasks are due in on Monday 15th October. They will be shared with the class and celebrated. Children will receive certificates and special mentions for inventive pieces. Any children that completed ‘baking’ may want to send pictures of the items or I am sure Mrs Taylor and I could help taste the pieces! We hope you have enjoyed the choice of tasks and look forward to seeing many of the pieces in school.

TOP Class are moving!

I am delighted to say that finally we have a lovely new classroom for TOP class to move into after half term. It is quite exciting. The children of TOP class have given their seal of approval when they visited it earlier in the term. The new space is a really wonderful learning environment for our children and Mr Pearman and Miss Beale are also excited at the prospect of having so much more space! The current TOP class will become our new library - we have grand plans for that - and the current library will become a much needed working space for the children’s interventions.

Finally a few reminders, please ensure that any absences are reported to the school office, this can be either by phone or email preferably on the day your child is absent. We continue to monitor lateness and are currently keeping a register of lates. It can be quite disruptive if your child comes late into the class as it is often a time when interventions and early learning tasks are taking place. It is important that if your child arrives after 8:55am (when the gate is closed) that you register your child at the school office and let Mrs Taylor know whether they are having a school lunch (as these are ordered daily). Lastly just a reminder that if parents wait in the car park could they kindly turn off their engines as the fumes from these engines are not healthy for young bodies. In addition could I please remind you once again that it is unsafe to park at the entrance of the car park as it blocks the sight for other drivers and pedestrians.

Once again thank you for your support in all matters and I look forward to seeing many of you next week at our Harvest Festival.

Kind Regards

Mrs H Clements
